Discriminating against military for loans
There are laws in place to protect members of the military against discrimination for loan applications. This law protects our military service members from being discriminated against because of their occupation when applying for a loan. The government has made sure that the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us are protected from people who may not agree with their career choice or with the way military action is taken. However, by the same aspect, there are some lenders and loan companies that have actually started discriminating in favor of members of the military. Some people think that members of the military deserve special privileges because of the sacrifices and their service to our country.
Discrimination
Discrimination is wrong in either fashion. It is wrong to
discriminate against someone for any reason, including because of occupation. It is just as wrong to discriminate for someone based on these same factors. There can be just as many consequences for either situation. No one should be discriminated for or against for any reason whatsoever. It is wrong and is against the law.
Positive discrimnation
Military payday loans are one great example of how lenders are discriminating for military personnel. We all know that payday loans are readily available to nearly everyone. However, military members are given special privileges and perks with payday loans. For instance, military members that receive a payday loan are offered a much lower interest rate on their loans. They incur much lower fees and interest charges. Payday loan companies readily admit to offering these lower rates to military personnel.
Members of the military are also given more options for repayment on their loans. They do not have to pay the loan off all at once like traditional borrowers do. They can decide if they want to repay the loan with their next paycheck or if they would like to make payments on the loan and take their time paying it off. Payday lenders are always coming up with new offers and special circumstances for members of the military. They also offer these same benefits to retired military members.
State laws
The state of California has made it a law that discriminating against military members for loans is a crime. People that discriminate against military members can be found guilty of a misdemeanor. There are penalties and legal action that can occur as a result of these practices. People have found themselves having to pay fines, spend time in jail, and endure many other consequences because of discrimination against the military. There are many other states that are currently working on laws that protect the military against discrimination. Some states have laws in place that are being changed or modified because the needs and circumstances are changing.
Many people ask themselves how someone could stoop so low as to discriminate against the people that are defending our freedom and keeping us safe. It is incomprehensible to most. However, there are quite a few people in our society that have no problem discriminating against our Armed Forces members.
This can be due to a variety of reasons. Maybe they are against war, maybe they are against violence, maybe they had a loved one that lost their life in the military, or maybe they just don’t realize what our military personnel are doing for them. Whatever the reason, it is a fact that many people are discriminating against the military. This occurs everywhere, but is most mentioned in lending and loan operations. The government is working to stop this problem and to help protect the integrity of our military. We should allow do everything in our power to prevent this discrimination from occurring.
